Making the Tiny Moments Count

This month I’d like to start by giving a huge shout out to our blog readers! Thanks for taking the time to read my posts and leave your comments. In fact, it was one of these comments that has inspired this month’s blog posting.

Reader Christy Micallef says, "Life is made up of all our tiny moments all strung together, so we have to make our tiny moments count". We certainly remember the big events, weddings, births, travels to faraway lands and other momentous occasions. But it’s the day-to-day tiny moments that determine our state of happiness. So the question is do you make your tiny moments count?

And in asking you I must ask myself, do I make my tiny moments count? I would have to say not enough. Often I get caught up in the business of life and forget to take time to enjoy a sky full of puffy white clouds, new blooms spouting up in my garden, watching my dog chase her ball around the yard like she’s just discovered it, sitting side-by-side with my partner watching something deliciously light & comical on tv, the laughter of my friend’s little ones when they think I’m hilariously funny (my best audience), time with my best girl friend without our men around (when we can be as silly as we want to be with no eye rolling) and a vast amount of other little moments that make up the greater tapestry of life.

So I am setting forth a challenge. Commit to one day in June of appreciating the little moments and making them the best they can be.

Instead of surfing the net try calling someone you would love to talk with and give them your full attention. Instead of rushing around like crazy in the usual chaos of the morning routine try setting your alarm clock an hour earlier (remember this is just for one day) and walk barefoot through the grass, play with your dog (if you have a dog you might want to rethink the barefoot in the grass) or make yourself a truly delicious breakfast and enjoy it without trying to multitask through it. These are just a couple of ideas – I’m sure you have lots more. Please comment below and suggest some of yours!

I’m accepting the challenge and will post my results here. By enjoying the tiny moments for one full day will I feel happier & more fulfilled falling to sleep that night? I’m excited to find out. I would love to hear you share your experiences as well and perhaps we can all learn together to make the tiny moments count.

I just enjoyed an amazing 15 minute break! I took myself outside, sat quietly in the shade & watched birds and butterflies flutter about. It felt REALLY good and I'm feeling recharged now:)

I just enjoyed letting my 4 year old daughter stay up late and watched her catch fire flies in our backyard.

That sounds like a beautiful summer evening moment Chantelle - for both of you. It leaves me with a warm fuzzy feeling that I'm taking into my day. Thanks for sharing:)
