Nicole Bigg

Nicole Bigg Designs has been a long time in the making, going through many metamorphosis on the way. My first class in jewellery design was night school at Vancouver Community College in 1992. Soon after I would move to the Slocan Valley in the Kootenays where I set up a studio and worked with fimo clay, copper wire and eventually silver wire . In 2002 I moved to Nelson and had the opportunity to attend the Kootenay School of the Arts for second year jewellery. I have been lucky enough to be part of an artist co-op for over 20 years, the Craft Connection has been the biggest reason my brand has survived and that I can make a living off my art. I mostly work alone but I have a few helpers that come in at busy times including one of my daughters.

My process is quite simple. I acid etch a collection of patterns onto brass templates , I then roll the pattern onto the sterling silver, 14k gold fill and bronze ~ I then cut, colour and matt finish. My designs have some asian flower names and motifs as I have fallen in love with the continent since living in Arabia as a child and traveling around India, Thailand and Vietnam as an adult ~ finding inspiration along the way.
